Our Learning Program Features and Highlights
Chilliwack School District follows the Graduation Program requirements of the Ministry of Education of the province of British Columbia. Graduates from our high schools receive the British Columbia Graduation Certificate (Dogwood Diploma). Our purpose in the Chilliwack School District is to help students develop their full potential, to be intelligent in as many ways as possible, and to synthesize their “intelligences” to produce creative, productive, and meaningful thinking.
- Excellent science and mathematics programs including a number of Advanced Placement courses (first year university credit granted)
- Hundreds of computers in each school and wifi available throughout each campus
- Strong Humanities program featuring History, Comparative Civilizations, Geography, Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, Advanced Placement English, and of course English and Social Studies
- A focus on second language development with programs in French as a Second Language, French Immersion, Spanish, Japanese, and German
- A very sophisticated and challenging art program, acknowledged by some to be among the strongest in the province, providing classes in painting (including with oil and acrylics), photography, ceramics, graphics, metal art and jewelry making, and art history. Many students earn entrance to highly regarded post-secondary institutes of art. A number of Chilliwack School District alumni are now well-known artists
- A highly successful music program which includes Concert Band, Jazz band, Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Beginning and Advanced Guitar, music composition and technology, and our unique drumline band. Our groups consistently earn high honours in local, regional, and national music presentations and competitions.
a critically acclaimed performing arts program which features Drama, Theatre Performance, Film and Television, Broadcast Media Productions and Dance Performance classes. A major musical production is performed each year. - Career Programs where students can participate in unpaid, District-arranged Work Experience placements in local businesses to earn additional course credit. This is a great opportunity for students to “test drive” career areas of interest.
- Unique learning opportunities in Peer Counseling, Teacher Training, and Leadership Training
- Many club and special event school activities, often organized by students, invite participation by all students.
- An extensive athletic program featuring many recreational and team sports including basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, rugby, field hockey, tennis, golf, track and field, cross country, curling, and snow skiing and snowboarding. Over the years Chilliwack’s high school teams have certainly won their share of regional and provincial championships, and we are always competitive but respectful participants
- Focus on academic achievement with a strong degree of accountability. The core academic classes are: English, Social Studies, Math, Science, Physical Education, and French
- Offer an excellent cross-section of exploratory classes. Elective course options include: Band, Art, Computer Studies, Drama, Journalism, Leadership, Photography, Broadcast Media, Food and Nutrition, Woodwork, Metalwork, Clothing and Textiles, Design and Technology, and Outdoor Education

- Small class sizes with an average of well under 30 students per class

- Numerous team sports offered including: volleyball, soccer, basketball, cross-country, rugby, field hockey, and track and field. As well there are many clubs to enjoy such as the ski and snowboard club, outdoor club, computer club, drama club, chess club, art club, and others
- Camping trips of two or three days, or in some schools even a week in length, which encourage appreciation of the outdoors, school spirit, bonding and friendship, and memories to last a lifetime

- Excellent ELL instruction. A tremendous ratio where there are no more than 10 students per ELL class and in some cases as few as 3 or fewer students in an ELL class
